Projects

Andahuaylas, Perú – August 2011.

We are coordinating our our lending efforts through the director of  the Casa Hogar “Los Amigos de Jesús”.  His name is Jaime Altamirano.  Jaime grew up in Andahuaylas, where he worked for World Vision from 1989 to 1993, where he coordinated some micor-lending.  World Vision left Peru in 1993 when the country was closed to outside activities due civil unrest.  Jaime then began working for the mayor of Andahuaylas as the director of finance.  He left this position in 2006 to begin working full time as the director of Casa Hogar “Los Amigos de Jesús”.

Jaime has been coording his work and vision with Giannina Posner who was born in Perú, but traveled to the US as a student and began working for the Bill Graham organization.  She married in the US and has been actively supporting Casa Hogar since 2004.   She and her family will join Jamie in Peru in early 2012.

Since 2004 Casa Hogar has been supporting Ketchua street children by providing housing and food as the childern travel to town during the week to attend school.  Since the distance is too far to travel daily, the children live on the streets during the week in order to attend school.

The overall vision of Casa Hogar is to provide micro-loans to the Ketchua families to raise Cuy, guinnea pigs and potatoe farming.  Both of these work well at elevation of 12,000 feet and above.  The program provides the loans, education, and ongoing personal and spiritual support through weekly meetings.  Loans will be made to group of women who will work in co-op fashion to raise Cuy or farm.

The added income from these new businesses will allow the Ketchua families to provide regular contact and support for their children living in town.  The weekly meetings provide for both accountability and opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the Ketchua.
